Today Apple confirmed internally to its support staff that reception issues surrounding iPhone 4 do indeed exist.
The memo indicates that many of the issues can be resolved by moving the hand away from the iPhone 4’s black antenna lines on the sides of the phone. This most commonly occurs when the phone is held in the left hand.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs was the first to confirm this to customers directly, via his company email account. However, this is the first time that the company has been confirmed to alert support staff internally.
AppleCare phone support staff were strongly cautioned to not offer customers iPhone Bumper Cases as a remedy. The memo did acknowledge that the cases could resolve the problem, by placing some distance between the hand and the device’s antennas… allowing RF signals to travel freely. The iPhone Bumper Case is designed to not interfere with the RF signals from the antennas on the surface of iPhone 4.
