Mobile chipset developer and solution provider Broadcom has announced the newest series of Bluetooth chipsets for headsets in the BCM2074x series, which feature improved SmartAudio® wind and noise reduction algorithms, support for multiple language voice prompts and the ability to charge five times faster than previous Bluetooth chipsets (4 hours of talk time after a 5 minute charge is claimed), improving battery life for headsets developed with the chip series.
Since the BCM2074x series is also developed on a new 65nm manufacturing process, power management is expected to be improved, with Broadcom claiming double the talk time compared to its previous chipsets along with support for Bluetooth versions 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0. The three chipsets in the BCM2074x series are all currently undergoing manufacturer sampling with the first headsets to be released sometime next year.
