To get a SIM unlock code, for subsidy unlocks, you now have to call customer service. The email simunlockcode@cingular.com will now only work for Cingular employees. Upon calling customer service, they are supposed to basically send the exact same email that the customer used to be able to, along with the customer’s contact information. Once approved, the SIM Unlock Group will then forward the code and unlocking instructions to the customer.
As we previously reported, the SIM Unlock Group is a new division in Cingular that will unlock any Cingular orange or post-merger-release blue phone for any customer that mantained service with the company for 90 days. Along with T-Mobile’s existing SIM unlock email, it marks for the first time that all national GSM carriers have been willing to unlock phones for customers.
