When Nokia announced last year that it would be removing BlackBerry Connect support in favor of Microsoft/IBM support, many current and potential customers were understandably upset with the turn of events, as it was perceived that Nokia did not want to compete with RIM directly via software.
The company was known for developing its own corporate email platform before it was ultimately dropped along with BlackBerry Connect support.
Speaking to Reuters, Nokia mobile messaging head Tom Furlong has confirmed that RIM will be picking up development of the BlackBerry Connect application for Series 60 after Nokia dropped in-house development to focus on offering corporate email services from the aforementioned Microsoft/IBM partnership.
No release timetable was given for the new offering.
