PhoneNews.com can now confirm availability of the iPhone at the nations largest retailer via an ad sent out via mail beginning this week. PhoneNews.com previously confirmed availability of the iPhone 3G via Wal-Mart in November.
Wal-Mart will begin sales of the device beginning on Sunday, December 28th at 9AM at a price of $197 for the 8GB model with the 16 GB model selling for $297, both after new 2 year agreement. The pricepoints above reflect Wal-Mart’s ability to sell slightly below retail price, but do not improve upon Best Buy Mobile and their $10 discount on new iPhone 3Gs until next January 3rd.
The device will only be sold through selected Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club locations, with no online sales of the device as per their sales agreement, similar to Best Buy. Wal-Mart will also post a store locator for the iPhone 3G in order to help customers find the closest store that is one of the 650 selected to sell the device.
