PwnageTool has been updated twice in the past 24 hours. We did not report on the initial release, due to show-stopping bugs which prevented it from working properly on most iPhones. In addition, QuickPwn (the more simplistic, auto-extracting version) was also updated. Both updates add support for iPhone OS 2.2.
The updates allow for continued jailbreaking (running software not sanctioned by Apple), as well as leaving open the potential for iPhone 3G to be unlocked easily. The iPhone Dev Team responsible for PwnageTool/QuickPwn stress that iPhone 3G should not be upgraded to 2.2 without PwnageTool, if a user wants to ensure future SIM unlocking of the iPhone 3G.
The update also continues to allow jailbreaking and unlocking of the original iPhone. Unfortunately, the updates do not add support for the iPod touch 2nd Generation. The bootloader for the latest iPod touch has yet to be successfully exploited to allow for a jailbreak.

PhoneNews.com has not yet mirrored the updated versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn. However, we are providing significant bandwidth for the BitTorrent versions, linked above. We encourage using the BitTorrent versions of the download whenever possible.
