The Symbian enthusiast site SymbianFreak has revealed the first details on a first for Nokia devices: A Series 60 based device with a touch display.
The device features Symbian Series 60, but is modified to support touchscreen displays, tactile feedback, and widescreen aspect ratios. The full featureset consists of an internal GPS transceiver, support for geotagging, GSM/W-CDMA access with HSPA packet data, Wi-Fi radio with UPnP support, Bluetooth, and an autofocus camera with an as of yet unknown resolution.
This device was first spotted last year during a developer conference shortly after the release of the iPhone, and was originally dismissed as a hoax or concept, with more information recently surfacing during another conference detailing Nokia’s intention to compete with the iPhone by utilizing all of its strengths, namely its experience with smart device development.
This device is targeted for launch in 2010, with Nokia positioning the device as a mid-range smart device and not as a flagship device, also marked by the lack of N-Series branding usually expected of such devices with the aforementioned features.
