In addition to the unveiling of the Samsung Instinct, and products at the WiMAX Forum, Samsung had even more to show at their own booth. From Femtocell to even more WiMAX, we were given full access to Samsung’s booth… including the things they didn’t want the public photographing
While most of Femtocell products are aimed at CDMA today, Samsung is taking a shotgun approach to the solution. Shown at CTIA were both CDMA2000 as well as UMTS/HSPA Femtocell solutions which can use broadband to provide an in-home base station. Samsung hopes these Femtocell solutions will compete with UMA offerings on 3GSM carriers.
Samsung also took a few of their WiBro phones from Korea and re-announced them as formal Mobile WiMAX phones… including the SPH-M8200, the first official WiMAX and CDMA2000 smart device. This dual-band support will allow Sprint to make good on prior commitments to ship combined WiMAX and CDMA devices in 2008.
