Ericsson has formally announced that it has filed suit against Apple over what Ericsson claims are patents it owns that are being implemented in current Apple products without the proper licensing terms and fees being paid following the expiration of a previous patent licensing agreement.
Further, Ericsson is claiming that Apple is continuing to implement the patents in question in its products without a new patent agreement in place, which both sides have been working on for over two years. Ericsson had the following to say on the suit, which was filed in multiple European countries:
“Apple continues to profit from Ericsson’s technology without having a valid license in place. Our technology is used in many features and functionality of today’s communication devices. We are confident the courts in Germany, the U.K., and the Netherlands will be able to help us resolve this matter in a fair manner.”
