In one of HP’s most daring moves, the computer manufacturer has decided to officially begin shipping the previously announced SlateBook 14 Android-powered laptop.
The laptop is powered not by an Intel processor as many would expect, but is instead powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor and runs Android Jelly Bean 4.3. The laptop is otherwise standard fare for a 14-inch unit, featuring a multi-touch 10-point widescreen 1080p display, 1 USB 3.0 port and 2 USB 2.0 ports along with 16GB of internal storage supplemented by a microSD slot with a claimed 9 hour battery life and HDMI output.
However, unlike the emphasis on low cost that has become the hallmark of the Chromebook. HP is somehow betting on the novelty of an Android-powered laptop powered by high-end phone hardware in order to justify its current $429.99 price tag and that remains to be seen, especially as HP seems to be focusing on low-end Android smartphone and tablet hardware to make its presence felt.
