Samsung has quietly announced the long-expected mini version of the flagship Galaxy S5 with the majority of the flagship’s features being retained and the only changes being a lower-class Snapdragon quad-core chipset with less RAM and a smaller bodyshell with a 4.5 inch 720p Super AMOLED display that will be offered in four colors: Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold, with single SIM and dual SIM options for each color also planned.
The S5 mini features the heart rate monitor, water and dust resistance, fingerprint sensor, private/kid mode, and Ultra Power Savings Mode from the flagship S5, though Samsung did downgrade many other specifications in order to make the mini less expensive than the flagship. The device features a 4.5-inch 720p HD Super AMOLED display powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor with 1.5GB of RAM. The main camera captures up to 8 megapixels instead of the flagship’s 16 megapixel sensor, while the secondary camera captures 2.1 megapixels. The camera also features many Samsung software camera functions such as Shot & More, Virtual Tour Shot, and S Studio.
The phone also includes 16GB of internal storage and supports microSD cards up to 64GB while connectivity options include HSPA/LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and infrared. The Galaxy S5 mini will launch first in Russia this month, and Samsung said it will eventually expand to global markets over time, with no US release immediately mentioned in today’s announcement.
I would like the galaxy s5 to come to straight talk before the end of this year.
