Not long after first confirming initial plans with Huawei within the last week, the company has apologized to PhoneNews.com in a new response regarding initial plans to update the Huawei Premia 4G to Jelly Bean, as they are now officially retracting plans to update the device in the future, with no specific reason given for the change of plans.
The Huawei Premia is the newest Android smartphone from the manufacturer and was recently released on MetroPCS within the past few weeks as the updated replacement for the 18-month old Activa 4G.
While the Premia 4G shipped with updated hardware that was powerful enough to run Jelly Bean without issue, it now seems that those update plans have taken a backseat as MetroPCS prepares for a shareholder vote on April 12th that will determine the ultimate fate of the company, one that will see it vote to merge with T-Mobile USA or officially reject the merger, with the loudest opposition in stake holding hedge funds growing even louder as the meeting edges closer, with multiple calls to reject the merger in the media.
The aforementioned activity surrounding MetroPCS may explain the apprehension towards working on any short-term updates that may be rendered moot soon. It has also been heavily rumored, but not yet officially confirmed that the Premia 4G is the last new CDMA/LTE device developed for MetroPCS in anticipation of the merger being formally approved.
MetroPCS shareholders are heavily expected to approve the merger despite the vocal hedgefund opposition in recent days, which then would fast track the company away from its own CDMA/LTE network and integrate T-Mobile’s current network with updates over the next 18-24 months, rendering the majority of CDMA/LTE phones obsolete as the network is planned to be transitioned over to HSPA+/LTE by late 2015, with customers needing to purchase new devices in the later stages of the transition according to current merger plans.
Bought the Premia with the knowledge of a jellybean update, ugh….Hauwei should apologize to the people like myself who purchased the smartphone thinking jellybean would soon be coming for it! It’s a nice phone and had I known of the “retracted statement” I would have not bought this particular phone as I at least wanted a smartphone that would run jellybean…..Trying to see now if Metro will swap for another phone that will be able to run jellybean….a word to my Chinese friends…..Do what you say, say what you mean, be clear please and don’t apologize to newspapers….think of your paying customers!
This sucks! I just bought this phone because I read this phone would get the jelly bean update. Jeez, my next phone will be the iPhone 5S.
Did you get your iPhone 5s ?
Ok, so the big merger took place…..congrats to mega deal tmobile-metro…..so now does this mean we will be getting the jellybean update on our premias’ that we purchased thinking that jellybean would be available to us?
