In an unexpected move for StraightTalk, the virtual operator has launched its first Android app specifically for customers subscribed to the $60 International Unlimited service plan.
The Android app serves as a dialer that bypasses the international dialer numbers that were previously required in order to dial international numbers with the service plan. The app itself is free and will function on the operator’s own Android device lineup, though customers using the BYOD SIM with other devices and the plan with the app have reported usage issues according to its dedicated page.
Currently, StraightTalk’s International plan serves the following countries, though it should be noted that there exceptions that aren’t being taken into account by the operator and include certain cities within the countries listed below:
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Canada Cellular, Chile, China, China Cellular, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus – Republic of, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, India Cellular, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Korea – Republic of, Malaysia, Mexico, Mexico Cellular, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Venezuela.
The operator also offers an international number checking service to make sure it works with the service plan via text messaging, to check if your international destination number is compatible with the plan, text the COUNTRY CODE + CITY CODE + PHONE NUMBER to shortcode 47787.
While StraightTalk was the first brand in the TracFone stable to launch an unlimited international dialing plan, the company has since expanded by recently launching the Mexican Telcel brand with the same plan offerings as StraightTalk and the addition of unlimited international messaging to the $45 plan.
