AT&T has announced that its next major Windows Phone device launch will be the successor to the Samsung Focus S in the Focus 2, slated for later this month on May 20th at a cost of $49.99 after new 2 year agreement.
The Focus 2 improves upon the Focus S and previous Focus variants by featuring Windows Phone Tango (7.5 Refresh) and thus being only the second device to ship with the update, as the international release has been delayed to June.
The phone features a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch display at WVGA resolution with a 5.0 megapixel main camera that does video capture with a front-facing VGA camera. Hands-free messaging is available through speech-to-text and text-to-speech features while 8GB of fixed storage is provided. Bluetooth and an accelerometer round out the phone’s features outside of LTE access.
It should be noted that AT&T is still the only US carrier making a substantial investment with Windows Phone, as it is also offering the flagship Nokia Lumia 900, also featuring LTE while T-Mobile has yet to commit to additional Windows Phone devices besides its current Lumia 610 offering and Verizon and Sprint pay lip service to the platform. This phone was also previously rumored to be cancelled within the past week, as the first test images from the FCC surfaced at that time with no previous announcement from either AT&T or Samsung.
