Sprint has been excluded from a $20 billion dollar contract auctioned
off by the government. The contract, called Networx Universal was to
allow for provisioning wireless voice, video, and data services to 135
federal agencies in 192 countries for ten years with total spending going as high as $48 billion.
Sprint had been providing the
government and related agencies telecom services for 18 years along with MCI prior to
this auction, with the big winners being AT&T, Verizon Business
(formerly MCI), and Qwest Communications.
The final contract will be awarded in May, while Sprint has
stated their intentions to file an official inquiry into the exclusion
with the federal government.
