After a couple of weeks of anticipation, Apple has officially released iOS 5.0.1 for the iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S. The update is also available for iPad and iPad 2, as well as the third and fourth generations of iPod touch.
The update is meant to fix the long-standing battery life issues that plagued owners shortly after updating to iOS 5 and/or purchasing the iPhone 4S upon launch. The update also includes additional multitasking gesture support for the first-generation iPad, that was first included with the iPad 2. The short changelog is found below.

The update does not appear to have any impact on the international unlocking status of CDMA iPhones, it appears phones that were SIM unlocked, correctly or incorrectly, will remain unlocked going forward. It is not clear if iOS 5.0.1 includes any security patches, but those interested in jailbreaking their devices may want to hold off on updating.
