Korea’s Yonhap news agency is reporting that Samsung’s President of Mobile Business and Digital Imaging has confirmed during a media breifing held yesterday that the conglomerate will launch the successor to the Galaxy S in the US next month.
This follows months of leaks and other speculation regarding which variant of the Android smartphone will be released as Samsung has developed two variants, one with the Nvidia Tegra 2 and one with its own in-house dual core Exynos processor.
The Galaxy S II is Samsung’s Android flagship with its new Super AMOLED plus display technology inside the 4.27-inch display, quadband GSM/EDGE, quadband HSPA at 21Mbps, dual-core 1GHz processor, GPS, Wi-Fi N and FM radio with RDS support. It will also feature an 8.0 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, auto-focus and flash.
The front facing camera is a 2.0 megapixel unit. DLNA for media sharing is also on board with a choice between 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage plus a microSD slot. The Galaxy S II will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and includes a suite of Samsung specific software, such as TouchWiz, Social Hub, Media Hub, Readers Hub, and Game Hub.
