According to internal Sprint documentation, the carrier is preparing to increase the upload cap on its WiMax service to 1.5Mbps upload from its current 1.0Mbps cap.
The increase is expected to go live tomorrow and is applicable to the entire mobile device lineup with no action necessary on the customer’s part. The fixed device lineup for home use is excluded from the upload cap increase.
For its part, Sprint PR rep Stephanie Vinge has also confirmed the upload speed increase, but did not give a date on when the increase would go into effect.
WiMAX devices on Sprint were capped at 1.0 mbps due to reliability issues with higher speeds at launch. Clearwire operates and controls the WiMAX network which Sprint uses, and Sprint in turn owns a controlling stake in Clearwire. It is not clear if all WiMAX devices will benefit from the faster speed, some original WiMAX devices like EVO 4G may not be able to fully reach the faster upload speeds.
Looks like this is a go on Clear proper as well. My Clear Spot and iSpot are both sustaining 1.5 Mbps now, with no firmware update.
