The Viewsonic 10 inch Android powered G-Tablet will be available for purchase via Sears online and in-store beginning this Tuesday. The tablet features Android 2.2, Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chipset running at 1GHz, 512MB RAM, 16GB of internal flash memory, microSDHC expansion slot, 10-inch capacitive display and a front-facing camera for video calls via Wi-Fi.
Pricing is currently set at $379.99, but the online store incorrectly points to a listing for the ViewSonic ViewPad which is a similar tablet that includes dual-boot capability with Android and Windows 7.
Can’t wait till I find out what apps are on it and what apps can be put on it like Google Nav (needs GPS receiver to use and if it requires aGPS for other nav apps that store map data on the device.)
I guess what I’m saying it’s about what you can do with it is more important than it!
Google Navigation requires an active internet connection, you would need a Cradlepoint or a phone with Mobile Hotspot to provide internet, assuming the device had GPS, which I seriously doubt.
What Google needs to do is create a Mobile Hotspot protocol that can output GPS data from a mobile phone to other devices like tablets. They have the standard (KML), they just need to provide server/client style pushing to facilitate the relaying of GPS data transparently from one device to another.
Still, I doubt they will. Google wants Android devices to be tied to wireless service, not to have others undercut it. They want tablets to have 3G/4G radios built-in.
