BellSouth (currently poised to join with AT&T) today announced new B2B offerings based on WiMAX. The new service provides business customers with 1.5 mbps backup internet access for $30/month. BellSouth bills it as a backup internet service connection that is only meant to be used by businesses when their primary internet connection fails.
BellSouth Backup WiMAX will feed into a WiFi access point into a business’ offices to serve the internet connection with only minimal network modification. The service is currently being offered only in Athens, GA, New Orleans, and Gulfport, MS. BellSouth expects to expand their deployment to more cities later this year.
