Google has opened up Google Voice to any interested consumers in the US. The service was purchased by Google in 2008 when it was previously known as GrandCentral, with the major features including multiple phone management under one master number and other features such as screening and personal greetings.
Google Voice has added free calls and text messaging to the US & Canada via its web-based and multiple mobile clients with low rates for international calling as well. Number portability is supported with outbound porting of the assigned number to other providers, with inbound number porting to be supported in a future service update.
Are you sure Google voice supports number portability?
We’ve updated the article to clarify that Google Voice currently supports porting out numbers, but does not yet support porting in numbers to Google Voice.
