After weeks of leaks and speculation, Verizon has officially announced the launch for its latest DROID flagship in the Droid Turbo, a high-end flagship variant of the standard 2014 Moto X.The phone features Ballistic Nylon or Metalized Glass Fiber reinforced with DuPont™ Kevlar® fiber depending on color choice, a scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 front, and water-repellent nanocoating for the bodyshell and internal electronics.
In addition, DROID Turbo customers who experience a damaged screen during their 2 year contract can replace it once for free and customers who purchase through Verizon Edge are also eligible for the complimentary replacement offer. The phone will be available in Metallic Black, Metallic Red, and Black Ballistic Nylon, which affects the aforementioned material choice for the bodyshell. Color choices will also affect storage options, as the the 32GB models will be available in Metallic Black, Metallic Red, and Black Ballistic Nylon for $199.99 with new two year activation or $25 per month on Verizon Edge.
The 64GB Black Ballistic Nylon model will also be available for $249.99 with new two year activation or $27 per month on Verizon Edge, with multiple options for early upgrades and trade-ins, such as $100 or more when you trade in your old smartphone for a Droid Turbo with new two year activation and upgrade; activation fees are also being waived for customers who purchase the DROID Turbo. Finally, Verizon is also allowing early upgrades to the Droid Turbo for those that upgraded before July 1st under the Edge program.
The phone features a Quad HD display, Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB RAM and a 21-megapixel camera with the dual LED flash carried over from the current Moto X along with a turbo charging feature that allows up to 8 hours of use after a 15-minute charge with the included Motorola Turbo Charger thanks to the unconventionally large 3,990mAh battery built into the phone that Verizon touts as featuring a 48-hour usage time before needing to be recharged from a full battery. Even with the aforementioned features, the phone also includes wireless charging support, though not at the level of the Turbo Charging feature.
