Verizon Wireless is taking Sprint to court for the non-payment of interconnection charges which amount almost to $10 million. With a two-year “statue of limitations” period on the claims coming to a close, Verizon has taken legal action to speed up the process of re-payment.
Verizon’s repeated attempts to collect the debt owed over several months came to no avail. The money owed to Verizon comes from services in the east coast.
Interconnection is used for communicating across networks, and enables the users of two different service providers to ‘connect’ with each other.
Interconnection charges consist of the following:
- Collecting & delivering calls
- Additional services such as calls to 411, etc.
- Set up, managing and maintainence of points of interconnect

This is not good news. I am sure it goes both ways. Maybe Sprint will just allow 10 mil worth of Interconnection on their network to even things out.
It’s nothing serious (hopefully) because of the 2 year time constraint being so close to finishing, Verizon had no choice but to file a suit and reclaim what is owed to them. It only speeds up the process.

No, the roaming agreement is not impacted by this. Carriers routinely sue each other without terminating all agreements between the two companies. In most cases, the agreements cannot be terminated simply because of an unrelated lawsuit.
