Texas Instruments has announced a new converged chipset that integrates Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and an FM radio combination on a single chip in the WiLink 7.
The WiLink 7’s Wi-Fi support includes the new Wi-Fi Direct standard, the Bluetooth support consists of the new Bluetooth 3.0+HS protocol and the FM radio is able to transmit and receive, while Texas Instruments claims a 30 percent reduction in cost and a 50 percent reduction in size compared to earlier solutions.
The chipset should begin to be included in devices by the end of the year, with manufacturers undergoing sampling at this time.
