Samsung Announces Galaxy Mega Oversized Smartphone Lineup

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8

Not content to sit still while other manufacturers make larger and larger devices, Samsung has announced yet another line of large Android smartphones in the Galaxy Mega series for those that think the Note series is still too small. The Galaxy Mega series consists of the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Mega 5.8, which run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and feature Samsung’s TouchWiz software overlay and related applications.

Story Album, S Travel, ChatON, IR Blaster, S Translator, Drama Shot, AirView, and Group Play round out the built-in apps shared between both phones while other shared hardware features include 8.0 megapixel main cameras with 1.9-megapixel front-facing cameras; Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/GLONASS support, NFC, and MHL; microSD card support up to 64GB and 1.5GB of RAM with multiple sensors such as an accelerometer, proximity, and a digital compass round out the key features.

The phones are still classified as phones and do not feature a stylus or support for the S Pen, while Samsung has yet to commit to a US release, as today’s announcement has only confirmed Russian and select European markets for launch next month. This follows Samsung’s launch of the flagship Galaxy S IV which has yet to be released and is also expected next month.
