Nokia’s Navteq navigation division has closed the purchase of speed trap/hazard information app developer Trapster for an undisclosed amount. The purchase is intended to shore up the division’s range of navigation data and services as Trapster uses data gathered from its current iPhone and Android apps to detail police speed traps and hazard information for motorists using the applications, with a claimed 9.6 million users.
A Navteq spokesperson stated the following about the deal:
"Navteq believes that community-generated data has a critical part to play in location content. It’s a small deal, even by Navteq standards."
