The FCC has revealed a new entry-level Samsung handset with US W-CDMA support. The
Samsung SGH-A617 is a clamshell phone with an external screen and
antenna.
The phone features Bluetooth, camera with video recording,
media player, and quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900) support
with dualband UMTS support (850/1900). The phone is intended for
release in Australia on Telstra according to the user manual, though
with the inclusion of UMTS 1900 and the A series nomenclature,
AT&T is seen as the carrier to launch it in the US.
