Amazon is running a fire sale this week on the Motorola-built Google Nexus 6 – as it is likely slated to be discontinued shortly. The 32GB model in Cloud White is available for $349.99 with free shipping. The 64GB model is $50 extra.
While the Nexus 6 is slated to be discontinued, Google commits to keeping Android Open Source Project releases for the devices for two years. And, with a Snapdragon 805 CPU, 6-inch display, and QuickCharge 2.0 – the phone is hardly obsolete, even if new sales will soon come to an end.
The Nexus 6 also has one other honor. It was the last device announced while Motorola Mobility was still an American company. Days after being announced, Motorola Mobility was formally sold to China-based-and-owned Lenovo.
The device is extremely similar to the new Moto X Pure Edition (aka the Moto X Style abroad). The Moto X Style has a slightly different/newer Snapdragon 808, and Motorola’s “Pure Android” enhancements (shake for camera, IR sensors for ambient display, etc). It also is slightly smaller at 5.7-inches, and easier to hold in most people’s hands.
However, at $100 less than the Moto X Pure, the Nexus 6 is now hard to disagree with. Verizon (under pressure from FCC complaints, and criticism from sites like ours) has recently agreed to register US-spec Nexus 6 models bought from Google and Motorola directly – so you won’t pay a penalty either for using it on their network anymore.
Probably the best benefit about the Nexus 6, aside from its quad-carrier support in the United States, is that it will be the first to get Android updates, free from any carrier testing or approval. Some Nexus 6 units sold by AT&T or Verizon may be delayed months in getting updates – not these batches.
Act fast – this sale could end at any time.
Locked one in for myself. Just keep in mind that you need to click over to the Cloud White version once on that page linked above.
Still in stock… though you might not think so if you pull the page up right now.
If you go to the New stock tab on the right, and click on the button to view all sellers, you can force it over to Amazon.com as the seller, and then it will drop down to $349 to $399 for price “shipped & sold by Amazon.com”.
Can’t promise it will be in stock for any longer, so if you want one… act fast.
