Clearwire Preparing First Mobile WiMAX PC Card

Clearwire, the nation’s largest WiMAX consumer service provider, has requested approval from the FCC to launch the first U.S. Mobile WiMAX-class network card for a laptop computer.

Mobile WiMAX, as opposed to Fixed WiMAX, operates just like a typical mobile broadband card, but offering the vastly enhanced speed and range benefits of WiMAX service.

Clearwire’s first card is offered in PC Card, though USB and ExpressCard models are expected to follow. The card is expected to launch in the second half of this year, and is being developed by Motorola. Pricing for the card was not disclosed.
