Cingular Wireless has announced that they will finally enable video calling on their UMTS phones and network. UMTS video calling has been promised by Cingular since 2003, with the release of UMTS video phones from AT&T Wireless. Now, customers will be able to use the un-tapped feature in their devices.
However, customers will have to wait until 2007. Cingular wishes to improve coverage and network infrastructure before allowing customers to use the service on their devices. Thanks to the UMTS standard, any UMTS phone supporting video calling and 1900/850 MHz UMTS will be compatible with Cingular’s network.
