After many delays, AT&T is expected to launch the first 3G Nokia phone
in the U.S. in April. The Nokia N75 is the first Nokia N Series device
in the US to support US WCDMA frequencies.
The clamshell phone features an internal antenna, quadband GSM/EDGE
support (850/900/1800/1900), dualband WCDMA support (850/1900), a 1.8″
262K external display at 128×160, an internal 2.4″ display at QVGA
resolution with a color depth of 16.7 million colors (rare for a
cellphone), Series 60 3rd Edition, Bluetooth 2.0 (no A2DP support),
Infrared port, miniUSB port with USB 2.0 support, 2.0 megapixel camera
with video recording, microSD slot with support for 2GB cards, FM
radio, media player, external music player controls, stereo speakers,
speaker independent voice dialing, speakerphone, and email client.
The phone has been reported
to have been delayed many times due to AT&T’s constant changes
in phone firmware in order to allegedly disable music streaming unless
the customer pays for Cingular Music, and other reports stating the
delays are due to the Microsoft Plays For Sure certification process
taking longer than usual. Nokia has also been reported to be unhappy
with AT&T’s demands on phone firmware changes.
The phone is
also allegedly being launched without the capability of installing
applications.
